Kathryn Tunstall has
served as Chairman of the Company’s Board of Directors since August 2006. Ms.
Tunstall is a 32 year veteran of the medical device and pharmaceutical
industries. Ms. Tunstall also currently serves as Chairman of the Board of
Directors of Conceptus, Inc. (Nasdaq:CPTS), a public women’s healthcare company
that developed and markets Essure™, the first non-surgical alternative to tubal
ligation for female permanent contraception. Ms. Tunstall was the first
President and CEO of Conceptus, and led the company from 1993 to 2000 through
several rounds of private financing and an initial public offering in 1996.
During her tenure as CEO, Conceptus was twice named one of the fastest growing
companies in the Silicon Valley, and was recently added to the Russell 3000
Index. The Essure™ device has been honored many times, most notably with the
Phoenix Medical Device Innovation Award.
Ms. Tunstall currently also serves on
the board of Caliper Life Sciences, Inc. (Nasdaq: CALP), a leading provider of
products and services for drug discovery research. She has served on the boards
of several private, development-stage companies including Vivant Medical, a
company in the tumor ablation market that was acquired by Tyco International in
2005, and Solarant Medical, a company that developed an innovative system to
treat female incontinence and was acquired by American Medical Systems, Inc.
earlier this year. Prior to joining Conceptus, Ms. Tunstall served as President
of the Edwards Less Invasive Surgery Division of Baxter International. She has
also held a variety of management positions in the areas of marketing,
logistics, distribution, operations and finance with divisions of American
Hospital Supply Corporation.
A breast cancer survivor, Ms.
Tunstall has been active in the support of the National Breast Cancer
Coalition, the UCSF Comprehensive Cancer Center and other cancer-related
philanthropic organizations. Ms. Tunstall holds a B.A. degree in Economics with
high honors from the University of California and has completed graduate work
in Business and Healthcare Administration.
