| Richard A. Franco, R.Ph. is the President and CEO of DARA BioSciences, Inc. Prior to joining DARA BioSciences, he was President, CEO and Chairman of LipoScience, Inc., a medical technology and diagnostics company. Prior to co-founding LipoScience he served as President and CEO of Trimeris, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company. Prior to joining Trimeris, Mr. Franco held several senior positions and served as a member of the executive committee at Glaxo Inc., an international pharmaceutical company, from 1983 to 1994, including serving as Vice President and General Manager of Glaxo Dermatology, Vice President and General Manager of the Cerenex Division, Vice President of Commercial Development and Vice President of Marketing. Prior to joining Glaxo, now known as GlaxoSmithKline (NYSE:GSK), Mr. Franco also worked in various positions of increasing responsibility over a 16-year period with Eli Lilly and Company (NYSE:LLY), an international pharmaceutical company. Mr. Franco also serves as a director of Salix Pharmaceuticals, Ltd., a specialty pharmaceutical company, and for the Research Triangle Chapter of the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD). He has served of the boards of TriPath Imaging, EntreMed Inc., Tranzyme, Inc., Amarillo Biosciences, and the Wake County United Way. Mr. Franco received a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy from St. John's University College of Pharmacy and did his graduate work in pharmaceutical marketing and management at Long Island University. He also completed executive training at the Wharton School of Business, Kellogg School at Northwestern University, The Fuqua School at Duke University, The Tuck School at Dartmouth College and Harvard College. Mr. Franco has served three terms as a distinguished judge for The Entrepreneur of the Year for North and South Carolina. |
